Before we work on your device, please read and understand the following terms.
1. Authorization to Circumvent (Bill C-244)
By requesting repair services from Dexterity Systems, you authorize us to circumvent "Technological Protection Measures" (TPMs) on your device for the specific purpose of diagnosis, maintenance, or repair.
This activity is protected under Canadian Federal Law (Bill C-244), but may void any remaining manufacturer warranty on your device. If preserving your warranty is important, please contact your manufacturer first.
2. Manufacturer Response Risk
Some manufacturers actively discourage independent repair. While Dexterity Systems follows industry best practices, future software or firmware updates from the manufacturer could potentially disable or limit the functionality of repaired devices.
Dexterity Systems is not liable for any manufacturer actions taken against independently repaired devices, including but not limited to: blocked updates, disabled features, or refusal of future warranty service.
3. Data Responsibility
You are responsible for backing up your data before service. While Dexterity Systems takes reasonable precautions, hardware repair carries inherent risks. Components can fail unexpectedly during diagnosis or repair.
Dexterity Systems is released from liability for any data loss that occurs during service. If your data is irreplaceable, please ensure you have a current backup before bringing in your device.
4. Data Recovery Services
Data recovery is a "best effort" service. Success depends on the type and extent of damage to your storage media. Physical damage (fire, water, severe impact) may make recovery impossible regardless of the tools or techniques used.
If data cannot be recovered due to media damage, you are still responsible for any diagnostic fees quoted before work began. We will always provide an honest assessment before proceeding with recovery attempts.
5. Encrypted Devices
If your device uses encryption (BitLocker, FileVault, or similar), you must provide the recovery key or password before service. Without this key, we cannot access the drive to perform repairs or recover data.
Dexterity Systems cannot bypass encryption. If you have lost your encryption key, please contact your device manufacturer or IT administrator.
6. Service Limitations
Not all devices can be repaired. Parts availability, device age, and extent of damage all affect repairability. We will provide an honest assessment and quote before beginning any work.
If we determine a device is not economically repairable, we will explain why and discuss alternatives. You will never be charged for repairs we cannot complete.
7. Pre-existing Damage
Device condition is documented at intake. Any pre-existing damage (scratches, dents, cracks, water indicators) will be noted before work begins. Dexterity Systems is not responsible for cosmetic or functional issues that existed prior to service.
